Jay-Z denies allegations he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old in 2000 along with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
A woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by Sean “Diddy” Combs has amended her lawsuit to include allegations that she was also assaulted by Jay-Z at the same party.
The lawsuit was initially filed against Combs in October, but on Sunday the woman added Shawn Carter, the rapper and businessman known as Jay-Z, as a defendant in the civil lawsuit.
Carter is the first celebrity to be accused of sexual assault in connection to Combs.
In a statement addressed to CNN, Carter called the allegations “so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime
against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
Combs was indicted on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and prostitution related charges. Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges and has denied all wrongdoing in roughly 30 civil lawsuits that have been filed against him.
The woman, who is identified as a Jane Doe, says she was 13 years old at the time she was allegedly assaulted by Combs and Carter at an after party following the Video Music Awards in 2000. The woman alleges she began to feel woozy after consuming a drink at the party and wandered into a nearby bedroom. The woman alleges Carter raped her first, followed by Combs. The woman says she hit Combs and ran out of the party, according to the amended lawsuit.
Carter was identified in the initial lawsuit as Celebrity A.
News of the lawsuit was first reported by NBC.
According to the lawsuit, the Doe’s attorneys reached out to Carter to request “a mediation to resolve this matter.”
“Upon present information and belief, Jay-Z responded to said letter by not only filing an utterly frivolous lawsuit, but by also orchestrating a conspiracy of harassment, bullying and intimidation against Plaintiff’s lawyers, their families, employees and former associates in an attempt to silence Plaintiff from naming Jay-Z herein. This effort was meant to scare Plaintiff and to discredit her counsel. That effort failed. Indeed, Plaintiff chose to file this amendment as a result of the egregious conduct perpetuated by Carter,” according to the lawsuit.
In his response sent to CNN on Sunday – which was addressed to Doe’s attorney – Carter called the mediation request a “blackmail attempt.” Carter also said this lawyer, “who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics!”
In a statement from Houston-based attorney Tony Buzbee on Saturday, he wrote, “The pleading speaks for itself. This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court.”
CNN has also reached out to Jay-Z’s wife Beyoncé Knowles for comment.
Carter added in his statement that his “only heartbreak” is for his family: “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age.”
CNN reported in November that an anonymous male celebrity filed a lawsuit against the Texas attorney representing the Doe alleging he was the victim of an extortion scheme.
The celebrity accused Buzbee and his firm of “shamelessly attempting to extort exorbitant sums from him or else publicly file wildly false horrific allegations against him.”
Attorneys for the unnamed celebrity claimed further the Buzbee had “threatened to unleash entirely fabricated and salacious allegations of sexual assault” that included “multiple instances of rape of a minor, both male and female” if their client “refuses to comply with their demands.”
Buzbee denied the extortion claims against him, in an
Instagram post in which he wrote that his firm “won’t allow the powerful and their high-dollar lawyers to intimidate or silence sexual assault survivors,” and in a statement to CNN.
“If you are trying to hide your identity and you claim you did nothing wrong, doesn’t seem very smart to take this approach,” Buzbee told CNN in an email at the time. “We will address it in due course.”
“I have confidence that with full public disclosure all of this will sort itself out,” Buzbee wrote.
On Sunday, Buzbee responded on social media to Carter’s statement, saying that the alleged victim “never demanded a penny from him,” claiming they only sought confidential mediation. Buzbee added,
“She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”

Kapil Dev praises Bumrah for leading team from the front
Kapil Dev praises Bumrah for leading team from the front
Mumbai, Legendary Kapil Dev on Sunday praised Jasprit Bumrah for leading India’s fight from the front in the ongoing Perth Test against Australia, and said the visitors have so far performed beyond expectations.
Bumrah, the stand-in captain for the Perth Test, led the team’s charge towards a vital 46-run lead in the first innings returning 5 for 30, as Australia were bowled out for a mere 104.
Bumrah’s 11th five-for in Test cricket was also his seventh in SENA , which put him at par with Kapil for most five-wicket hauls in these nations.
“Special congratulations must be given to Bumrah because it is very rare that bowlers are chosen as captains and it feels very good to see him lead the way he has done,” Kapil told the media here during the Vishwa Samudra Golden Eagle Golf Championship.
Kapil lauded Bumrah for bringing fast bowling back into the discussions in the country.
“I need not say anything — his records show . He is the top bowler in the world, what else do we need?” he said.
“I hadn’t thought before that a fast bowler would be discussed so much in India but that is happening today and I feel happy and proud about that,” he added.
India staged a stunning comeback to take complete control of the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s superlative 161, KL Rahul’s 77 and a fifty from Virat Kohli extending their overall lead beyond 400.
Kapil said India’s performance was contrary to the exceptions given the team was recently trounced 0-3 by New Zealand at home.
“The team is playing really well. They should win the first Test, positive thinking should always be there,” he said.
“It wasn’t expected that the team would play so well after the New Zealand series. You feel angry when they play badly but also love when they do well,” he said.
“It is for all, it is a team game. One player has done the job today for the team and tomorrow there would be someone else.
"The Indian team has played very well,” Kapil said when asked about Jaiswal, who became the third youngest player after Sachin Tendulkar and Rishabh Pant to hit a Test ton in Australia.
Voormalig tv-weerman John Bernard (87) is overleden.
Openeer: ‘Daardoor was onze nieuwsorganisatie wakker.’
Voormalig tv-weerman John Bernard (87) overleden

Quincy Jones leaves an enduring legacy in Seattle
Music fans across the globe are mourning the death of Quincy Jones.
Icon. Musical genius. Producer-extraordinaire. All of those titles can be used to describe Quincy Jones. The musician and composer died today, November 4, at the age of 91.
His musical roots were planted here in the Emerald City.
Quincy Jones graduated from Garfield in 1950, and he came back when the auditorium at Garfield was named in his honor back in 2008.
The Quincy Jones Performing Arts Center stands as an enduring tribute to a man who influenced music around the world.
Quincy Jones’s musical career started playing jazz trumpet, like fellow Garfield High School Alum Thomas Marriott.
Add to the quintessential Quincy Jones, the more than 40-year-old “Thriller,” an album that helped transform Michael Jackson into the biggest pop star in the world. It cemented Jones’s reputation as a musical genius in whatever genre he chose to work while never truly leaving jazz behind.
“I think his real gift was making things hip, you know,” said Marriott, smiling. “And I think if you listen to those Michael Jackson records there’s a lot of high IQ things happening musically, you know, in addition to being funky, you know. It’s a winning combination.”
And he had the hardware to prove it. Twenty-eight Grammy awards, a Tony, and seven Academy Award nominations before winning the Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Quincy Jones, called ‘Q’ by his friend and colleague Frank Sinatra, was born in Chicago. His family moved to Bremerton during World War II and then on to Seattle.
The Emerald City is where his musical talent took root and flourished, eventually taking him all over the world.
In 2021, Jones received the Museum of Pop Culture’s Founders Award, a measure of his influence across musical genres.
“I think that he was able to look at music that wasn’t delineated by genre or by audience or by race,” said Jacob McMurray, MoPop Chief Collections & Exhibition Officer, “but really thinking across all of these different things.”
And his legacy continues. Thomas Marriott is leading the charge with the Seattle Jazz Fellowship to make Jazz an institution here in Seattle, like the ballet, the opera, and the symphony.
I expect Quincy Jones would be proud.
