Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Set to Return from Injury in Week 14 Matchup with Vikings ✅

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will return as the starter in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings, coach Dan Quinn announced Friday. This marks Daniels’ first game action since dislocating his left (non-throwing) elbow in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Daniels resumed limited practice last week and became a full participant by Thursday. Following Friday’s practice, Quinn confirmed that Daniels was cleared to play on Sunday, adding that the quarterback had a “great week” of preparation.

At 24, Daniels has appeared in just six of the Commanders’ 13 games this season. He missed two games after a knee sprain in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers and missed another game due to a hamstring injury suffered in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys. His latest injury occurred upon returning against Seattle.

Last season, Daniels, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, guided Washington to a 12-5 record and the franchise’s first NFC Championship Game since 1991. This season, however, has been challenging. The Commanders are 3-9, with Marcus Mariota starting in the six games Daniels missed. Washington has struggled with injuries across the roster, and the defense has fallen to one of the NFL’s weakest units.

Even with the team largely out of playoff contention, coach Dan Quinn said last week that he wanted Daniels to get valuable game reps.

“I think it’s important for Jayden, as he’s learning to play this position at the highest level competitively, to also do it safely,” Quinn said on Nov. 24. “Those reps are part of developing the skill—just like throwing and processing. All of those things matter.”

Daniels will have his full group of receivers for the first time since Week 2. Terry McLaurin returned last week after dealing with a lingering quad injury, and Noah Brown (knee) has been a full participant in practice this week.
