Statement regarding the December 2 hijacking incident in South Sudan.

A Samaritan’s Purse aircraft operating within Africa was involved in a hijacking on Tuesday, Dec. 2, with a pilot and one staff member on board. The Caravan plane was traveling to Maiwut, South Sudan, to deliver medicines for the organization’s mobile medical unit when the incident occurred.

The pilot ultimately managed to land safely in Wau, South Sudan, where authorities with the National Security Service apprehended the armed hijacker.

We are thankful that no one sustained serious injuries and deeply appreciate the swift response and support from local security forces, which helped ensure a safe resolution.
