বোমায় কবজি উড়ে গেল পুলিশের

রাজশাহীতে আজ রোববার সকালে সংঘর্ষের সময় জামায়াত-শিবিরের বোমা হামলায় পুলিশের এক উপপরিদর্শকের (এসআই) হাতের কবজি উড়ে গেছে। তাঁকে প্রথমে রাজশাহী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে চিকিত্সা দেওয়া হয়। পরে হেলিকপ্টারে করে ঢাকায় পঙ্গু হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়েছে। সংঘর্ষে পুলিশের আরও ছয় সদস্যসহ অন্তত ৩২ জন আহত হয়েছে।
আহত এসআইয়ের নাম মকবুল হোসেন (২১)। তিনি রাজশাহী মহানগরের মতিহার থানার একজন শিক্ষানবিশ এসআই। প্রশিক্ষণ শেষ করে মাস খানেক আগে তিনি এই থানায় যোগ দেন। তাঁর বাবা আনসার আলী রাজশাহী মহানগর পুলিশের হাবিলদার (নিরস্ত্র) হিসেবে কর্মরত। তাঁর বাড়ি সিরাজগঞ্জে।
পুলিশের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, জামায়াত-শিবিরের ছোড়া বোমার আঘাতে মকবুলের হাতের কবজি উড়ে গেছে। আর ছাত্রশিবিরের পক্ষ থেকে দাবি করা হয়েছে, নিজেদের গ্রেনেড ছুড়তে গিয়ে পুলিশের ওই সদস্য আহত হয়েছেন।
রাজশাহী মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের অর্থোপেডিক সার্জারি বিভাগের চিকিত্সক বি কে দাম প্রথম আলো ডটকমকে বলেন, মকবুল হোসেনের ডান হাতের কবজি ও বাম হাতের তিনটি আঙুল উড়ে গেছে। বাম হাতের বাকি দুটি আঙুলও ক্ষতবিক্ষত হয়েছে। তাঁর শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থান থেকে বোমার বেশ কিছু স্প্লিন্টার বের করা হয়েছে।
চিকিত্সক বি কে দাম আরও জানান, স্বাস্থ্যমন্ত্রী আ ফ ম রুহুল হক ফোন করে মকবুল হোসেনের চিকিত্সার খোঁজ নেন। প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার নির্দেশে তাঁকে উন্নত চিকিত্সার জন্য দ্রুত হেলিকপ্টারে করে ঢাকায় পঙ্গু হাসপাতালে পাঠানো হয়।
মকবুল হোসেন চিকিত্সকদের জানিয়েছেন, তাঁর মাথা বরাবর বোমাটি আসছিল। তিনি মাথা বাঁচাতে দুই হাত দিয়ে সেটি ঠেকানোর চেষ্টা করেন। তখনই এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
মকবুল হোসেনের বাবা আনসার আলী ছেলের সঙ্গে ঢাকায় যান। মুঠোফোনে যোগাযোগ করা হলে তিনি বলেন, ছেলে তাঁর সঙ্গে কোনো কথা বলেননি। শুধু কয়েকবার চোখে মেলে তাকিয়েছেন। তবে ছেলের একজন সহকর্মী তাঁকে (আনসার) জানিয়েছেন, স্যার (মকবুল) মাথা বাঁচাতে দুই হাত দিয়ে বোমা ঠেকাতে গিয়েছিলেন।
এ ছাড়া সংঘর্ষের ঘটনায় গুরুতর আহত পুলিশের দাঙ্গা দমন বিভাগের (আরসিডি) কনস্টেবল রফিকুল ইসলামকে (২২) হাসপাতালের ৩১ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে। বোমার আঘাতে তাঁর বাম হাতের কুনুই ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়েছে। তাঁর অস্ত্রোপচার করা হয়েছে। তিনি এখন শঙ্কামুক্ত। আহত অন্য পুলিশ সদস্যরা প্রাথমিক চিকিত্সা নিয়েছেন।
প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী ও পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা গেছে, আজ সকাল সাড়ে ১০টার দিকে নগরের বাটারমোড় এলাকায় জামায়াত-শিবিরের প্রায় ৩০০ নেতা-কর্মী মিছিল বের করেন। তাঁরা আমান ট্রেডিং করপোরেশনের সামনে এসে ককটেলের বিস্ফোরণ ঘটান। পুলিশ তাঁদের ধাওয়া দিতে গেলে দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষ বাধে। জামায়াত-শিবিরের কর্মীরা পুলিশকে লক্ষ্য করে ইটপাটকেল, ককটেল ও হাত বোমা ছুড়তে থাকেন। পুলিশও পাল্টা রাবারের গুলি, সাউন্ড গ্রেনেড ও কাঁদানে গ্যাসের শেল নিক্ষেপ করে পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনার চেষ্টা করে। একপর্যায়ে সংঘর্ষ রানীবাজার এলাকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ে।
রানীবাজারের মোমিন সাইকেল স্টোরের স্বত্বাধিকারী সাজ্জাদ হোসেন বলেন, ১০ থেকে ১২ মিনিট এমন তুমুল সংঘর্ষ হয়েছে যে তাঁরা বোমা আর সাউন্ড গ্রেনেডের বিকট শব্দে কিছু শুনতে পাননি। ধোঁয়ায় কিছু দেখাও যাচ্ছিল না। তাঁর দোকানের সামনে একটি বোমার বিস্ফোরণ ঘটেছে। অল্পের জন্য তিনি প্রাণে বেঁচে গেছেন। তিনি বলেন, ২১ বছর ধরে তিনি এই এলাকায় ব্যবসা করছেন। এমন ভয়ানক সংঘর্ষ কোনোদিন দেখেননি। তিনি জানান, জামায়াত-শিবিরের কর্মীদের হাতে বাটুলও দেখা গেছে।
বাজারের মারুফ ইলেকট্রনিকসের স্বত্বাধিকারী ইসা শেখ বলেন, সংঘর্ষ এত দ্রুত ছড়িয়ে পড়ে যে তিনি দোকানের পুরো শার্টারও নামাতে পারেননি। দোকানের ভেতরে দাঁড়িয়েই একজনের আর্তনাদ শুনেছেন তিনি। সংঘর্ষ থেমে গেলে বাইরে গিয়ে তিনি রাস্তায় রক্ত ও মাংস ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকতে দেখেন।
রাজশাহী মহানগর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশের ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা আলমগীর হোসেন বলেন, পুলিশ যে সাউন্ড গ্রেনেড ও কাঁদানে গ্যাসের শেল ব্যবহার করে, তাতে কেউ আহত হয় না। শিবিরের শক্তিশালী বোমার আঘাতেই পুলিশ আহত হয়েছেন।
আর এ ব্যাপারে শিবিরের রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শাখার প্রচার সম্পাদক মহসিন আলম মুঠোফোনে প্রথম আলো ডটকমের কাছে দাবি করেন, শিবিরের কাছে হাত উড়িয়ে দেওয়ার মতো কোনো অস্ত্র নেই। নিজের গ্রেনেড ছুড়তে গিয়েই পুলিশ আহত হয়েছে।

কথা বলছেন রাইডার

কথা বলতে পারছেন নিউজিল্যান্ডের ক্রিকেটার জেসি রাইডার। কোমার ধকল কাটিয়ে তিনি গতকাল কথা বলেছেন তার ম্যানেজার অ্যারোন ক্লে, তার মা এবং মেয়ে বন্ধুর সঙ্গে। তবে আক্রমণের সময়ের কথা তিনি কিছুই মনে করতে পারছেন না। শুধু সন্ত্রাসীদের হামলার দিন ওয়েলিংটনের হয়ে ব্যাট হাতে ক্যান্টরবুরির বিপক্ষে ‘ডাক’ মেরেছিলেন এতটুকুই তার মনে আছে। এরপর আর কি হয়েছে তিনি কিছুই বলতে পারছেন না। অ্যারোন ক্লে বলেন, কোন ধরনের সমস্যা ছাড়াই রাইডার এখন শ্বাস নিতে পারছেন। তবে পূর্ণ সুস্থ হতে তাকে আরও কিছুদিন হাসপাতালে থাকতে হবে। কয়েক দিন আমার মুখে হাসি ছিল না। আজ আমি হাসতে পারছি। বুধবার রাত সাড়ে ১২টার পর আইকম্যান নামক একটি পানশালার সামনে দুষ্কৃতকারীদের নৃশংস হামলার স্বীকার হন তিনি। এতে তার মাথা ফেটে যায় ও ফুসফুসে মারাত্মক জখম হয়। হাসপাতালে নেয়ার পর গভীর কোমায় চলে যান তিনি। জীবন-মৃত্যুর সন্ধিক্ষণ থেকে ধীরে ধীরে সুস্থ হয়ে উঠছেন তিনি। ভিডিও ফুটজ দেখে তার ওপর হামলার সন্দেহে ২০ ও ৩৭ বছর বয়সী আটক দু’জনকে ৪ঠা এপ্রিল আদালতে হাজির করা হবে।

Want to end tour with another win: Mushfiq

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim wants to utilize the tour-ending Twenty20 against Sri Lanka to cure a number of ills that prevail in his side, especially with the home side fielding a young squad without some influential players, reports Cricinfo.
The biggest absentees, to the relief of Bangladesh, are Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, two batsmen who scored heavily over the past month. To be excused the sight of these two has given Mushfiqur reason to plan differently and psyche his teammates appropriately. Also missing is Mahela Jayawardene, who was not picked despite recovering from a fractured finger.
“It is a big opportunity for us to be competitive against them, the No. 1 team in Twenty20s, and push for a win,” Mushfiqur said. “They are without [Kumar] Sangakkara and [Tillekaratne] Dilshan, who have troubled us all tour.”
Sri Lanka have included five young uncapped players for the T20 and another player, Kithuruwan Vithanage, who made his Test debut against Bangladesh earlier this month, is yet to play in the shortest format for his country.
“They have a quite a young side, but they’re playing at home,” Mushfiqur said. “They definitely have the potential to do well. I know some of the new players from the time I played in the Sri Lanka Premier League. I shared my thoughts regarding their skills with my team-mates. There are also a few who played in the warm-up matches so we know quite a bit.”
The other factor in Bangladesh’s favour is the momentum from the ODI series which they managed to draw 1-1 through a frenetic chase in the final game after rain took away more than two hours from their innings. The interruption left them with an asking-rate of than eight runs an over, which they overcame.
“The last game had a Twenty20-type run chase. So you can say we had some practice, which I see as a positive. No one is a favourite in Twenty20 cricket, but we would like to carry over the momentum from the rest of the tour.”
More than the rookie opponents, the Bangladesh captain was concerned about the team’s inability to close out tours properly and the overall shortage of Twenty20 skills in the side. Over the last decade one feature that has been noticed is how poorly Bangladesh have played when their departure is near. It has even afflicted them during a short Twenty20 tour to the Netherlands last year when they lost to the hosts in the last game.
“It has happened in the past that we end tours on a bad note. This is a huge opportunity to reverse the trend. We have had a lot of positives from this tour, so I would like to go back home with another win. We want to grab this chance with both hands, because we don’t have a good record in Twenty20s. We will have to get our basics right, results are for later.”
Indeed it will be the basics that they would have to correct as they have often gone missing in the rush of a Twenty20 game. The bowlers often suffer, delivering poor lengths during the first six overs of the Powerplay as well as towards the end when they are usually facing big hitters. Mushfiqur brought to notice the diverse skills of Lasith Malinga when compared to the deficiency of skills among his bowlers in this format.
“We lack in skills and mentality in Twenty20s compared to other teams and individuals. But we are changing in the last two years in terms of mental and physical strength and skills. Our team is doing well without big performers, which is a good sign.
“Malinga has three or four variations and if he uses it in 24 balls, it is not easy to score against him. Our bowlers are developing new skills, but it will take time. The more Twenty20s we play, we will know what areas we need to work on.”

Jayasuriya defends minister’s son

Sanath Jayasuriya, Sri Lanka’s chairman of selectors, has justified the selection of a minister’s son in the national squad for the one-off Twenty20 against Bangladesh, after his panel attracted sharp criticism in some parts of the local media. Allrounder Ramith Rambukwella, is the son of media and information minister Keheliya Rambukwella, reports Cricinfo.
“Ramith is a left-hand batsman who bowls right arm offspin, who can clear the boundaries and can hit hard,” Jayasuriya said. “He’s someone who can play Twenty20 cricket in the middle order, and you need players like that in this format. We’re bringing him on as a batting allrounder who can bowl offspin.”
Rambukwella, 21, has played club cricket since 2011, but has hit only two half-centuries in 28 innings, across all formats. He has scored 135 runs at an average of 16.87 in List A games and 122 at 17.42 in T20s. He has been more successful with the ball, having taken 10 wickets at an average of 23.60 in List A and eight wickets in T20s at an economy-rate of 7.28. He developed his reputation for big hitting during a successful school cricket career, during which he played for Royal College in Colombo.
“We don’t just bring in players who perform, we also bring in players with talent,” Jayasuriya said. “There are plenty of players who haven’t performed that well in club matches, but have played well in internationals. I’ve seen a lot of players like that.
“I’m not saying you can get picked even if you don’t bat well in domestic cricket, I’m saying if you are talented, or you’ve made runs in the past, we will give those players an opportunity. We will consider any player. They don’t just have to be under 23, even 28 to 30-year olds are considered, and we will try to take those players to the place they need to go.” Whatever happens on Sunday night, Sri Lanka will look back on this tour and feel it has not gone as they would have liked. Bangladesh had never taken a Test to the fifth day in Sri Lanka, but they bettered even that achievement by keeping the hosts to a draw. Sri Lanka were made to fight hard in the second Test, and though they triumphed handsomely there in the end, they were embarrassed in the ODI series, when Bangladesh stormed home in Pallekele. Sri Lanka may have been missing Mahela Jayawardene, who has made home series a specialty, but Bangladesh have been without their star player in Shakib Al Hasan throughout the tour, and lost Tamim Iqbal after the first ODI.

Islami Bank denies terror finance link

Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd has no relation with terror financing, its Chairman Prof Abu Nasser Muhammad Abduz Zaher said yesterday.
“Our regulator may ban our banking activities if it finds any of our transactions are related to terror financing,” he said.
“Islami Bank does not belong to any political party and is a bank of 16 million people, he continued, “Over the last few months, our deposit accounts and deposits have been increasing thanks to our clients’ trust.”
He also said the bank was not against Bangladesh and its flag.
Prof Zaher was speaking at the bank’s 30th anniversary ceremony of banking services at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital.
Islami Bank started its journey in 1983 with 70 percent stake belonging to foreign sponsors, 5 percent to the government, 15 percent to local sponsors and 10 percent to general shareholders, its officials said.
Islamic Development Bank is the biggest foreign sponsor of the bank, said the officials, adding that institutional investor JP Morgan also has a stake in the bank.
According to the banks website, three ministries of Kuwait — Public Institution for Social Security, Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and Ministry of Justice and Department of Minors Affairs Kuwait Finance House — Jordan Islami Bank, Dubai Islami Bank and Al-Rajhi Company for Currency Exchange and Commerce, Saudi Arabia are also the leading sponsors of the bank.
“We have no plan to sell our stakes, rather we want to buy more if any one wishes to sell,” said Salauddin Ahmed, representative of Kuwait Finance House, Kuwait and an elected director of Islami Bank. He said this referring to news reports that the bank’s foreign sponsors were selling their shares in the wake of Shahbagh movement.
“We are proud to be a shareholder of a leading bank that runs under Sharia law, he said.
Two basic principals of Islami banking are: sharing profit and loss with the client and most significantly prohibition on collection and payment of interest. Charging interest on loans is not permitted in Islamic law.
Chairman of IFIC Bank Salman F Rahman, who was present at the ceremony, said “Finance Ministers of America and Europe have opined that they could have avoided the recession had they followed Sharia banking system.”
Aftab ul Islam, president of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh, said Islami Bank was the best compliance bank in the country.
Speaking of the bank’s performance in many financial areas, Managing Director of Islami Bank Mohammad Abdul Mannan said the bank was playing a significant role in socio-economic development of the country by contributing to higher growth in remittance, industrialisation and export-import businesses.
The bank was listed in Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1985. Its share traded at Tk 43.3 on Thursday, according to DSE website.

Five killed in clashes

At least five people were killed and 50 others, including eight policemen, were injured during clashes between opposition activists and law enforcers in Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj yesterday over arresting Jamaat men.Protesting the deaths of three people in “police firing” at Shibganj of the district, BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance has called a daylong shutdown in Chapainawabganj tomorrow.The clash at Shibganj began when a police team went to Gopalnagar village around 3:00am to arrest Jamaat activists in connection with the torching of Kansat Palli Bidyut sub-station on February 28, police sources claimed.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports: activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir set off a few firecrackers when the police team reached the village.
Sources said the crackers were used to notify people of the arrival of police. Several hundred people from nearby villages then surrounded the law enforcers and started throwing brick chips at them, witnesses said.
On information, additional police force, and Rab and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel went to the spot around 4:00am and retaliated with fire. They fired several bullets to relieve the pinned down police team, witnesses said.
After the law enforcers left the scene, locals found Waliullah, 18, and Rabiul Islam, 25, lying dead on the spot. Injured Matiur Rahman, 45, succumbed to his injuries later.Villagers claimed that Waliullah and Matiur were Jamaat adherents while Rabiul was of BNP. At least 20 others, including four policemen, also sustained injuries in the clash. Police arrested 21 people from the spot, said Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak of Shibganj Police Station.At around 10:30am, the violence spread to the district town.
Jamaat men and pro-Jamaat student body Islami Chhatra Shibir activists vandalised several roadside shops in the town and tried to block the road between Chapainawabganj and Sona Masjid Land Port with electric poles and logs.
They brought out processions at Swarupnagar, Shibtala and Mohananda Bridge Toll Plaza areas and exploded several homemade bombs.
They fought pitched battles with law enforcers, who fired several bullets but brought the situation under control later.
No casualties were reported there.
BNP district unit president Shahjahan Mia, also coordinator of the 18-party alliance of the district, at a press briefing yesterday called hartal in the district for Sunday.
District Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed refused to make any comments on the matter.
In Sirajganj, the clash erupted after Belkuchi police arrested Jamaat leader Habibur Rahman at Modhupur village around 9:00am in connection with torching the Belkuchi Upazila Awami League office on March 3.
Officer-in-Charge Samsul Haque of Belkuchi Police Station said police arrested Habibur and took him to the police station without any trouble, reports our Pabna correspondent.
As the news of Habibur’s arrest spread, Jamaat-Shibir men started attacking shops and homes of ruling Awami League adherents.
Samsul said, “When police went to the village again, unruly Jamaat men spread a rumour that police were attacking innocent villagers and asked them to gather on Kalyanpur High School ground.
“The Jamaat-Shibir men then surrounded us and started firing on us,” the officer-in-charge claimed.
Four policemen were injured.
Police tried to disperse them with teargas but they would not leave. Police then resorted to firing shotgun shells. At least 70 shells were fired, including 47 rubber bullets.
Police recovered two bodies from the spot and sent them to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies.
The deceased were identified as BNP activist Faridul, 19, and Shibir activist Yunus, 18.
During the hour-long clash at least 30 people were injured, including Sirajganj district correspondent of Bangladesh Television Gazi Shahadat Hossain Firozi. He was admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.
A reporter of MyTV was also injured during the clash.

4 Pakistanis among 16 held with bombs in city

Plainclothes police arrested 16 people, including four Pakistani nationals, along with eight bombs and 12.9 million Indian Rupees “while planning subversive activities in the city”.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted simultaneous drives in several areas of the city, including Paltan, Nikunja, Kalabagan and Bangshal, from 2:30pm Friday to 4:30am Saturday and arrested the 16 people.
Contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mashiur Rahman confirmed the arrest.
Apart from eight bombs and the Indian currencies, several passports were recovered from the arrestees’ possession, he added.
A Bangladeshi eye specialist was among the arrestees, said a DB official.
He said that the detainees might be the members of an outfit trying to carry out subversive activities in the capital or elsewhere in the country.

বিদ্যালয়ের পথে পথে অশ্লীল পোস্টার

কিশোরগঞ্জের ভৈরব পৌর শহরের প্রাচীন শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে উচ্চবিদ্যালয়। বিদ্যালয়সংলগ্ন ঢাকা-সিলেট মহাসড়কের কালভার্ট। কালভার্টের নিচে বেশ কয়েকজন শিক্ষার্থীর জটলা। তাদের দৃষ্টি সেতুর দেয়ালে। ওই স্থানে ইংরেজি ও বাংলা ছবির অশ্লীল পোস্টার সাঁটা।
‘কী দেখছ?’ জিগ্যেস করতেই মাথা নিচু করে বিদ্যালয়ের দিকে রওনা হয় শিক্ষার্থীরা। এটি গত বৃহস্পতিবার সকালের ঘটনা।
ওই বিদ্যালয়ের ভারপ্রাপ্ত প্রধান শিক্ষক এ টি এম খলিলুর রহমান বলেন, ‘অশ্লীল পোস্টার সাঁটার স্থান হিসেবে চলচ্চিত্র ব্যবসায়ীদের স্কুল-কলেজের সড়কগুলো যেন বেশি পছন্দ। আমার স্কুলের চারপাশে একই অবস্থা। কোমলমতি শিক্ষার্থীরা এসব দেখে আকৃষ্ট হচ্ছে। সর্বনাশ যা হওয়ার তা তো হয়েই যাচ্ছে।’
জানা গেছে, ভৈরব বাণিজ্যিক শহর। এখানে নৌবন্দর ও রেলওয়ে জংশন রয়েছে। কাজের প্রয়োজনে চারপাশের কয়েক হাজার মানুষ প্রতিদিন ভৈরবে আসা-যাওয়া করে।
ফলে স্বাধীনতার আগে থেকেই প্রেক্ষাগৃহগুলোর ব্যবসা সফল। ঢাকার সঙ্গে তাল মিলিয়ে বাণিজ্যিক ছবি প্রদর্শন করা হয় এখানকার প্রেক্ষাগৃহগুলোতে; একইসঙ্গে ইংরেজি ছবির দর্শকও প্রচুর। প্রচার হিসেবে শহরের একাধিক স্থানে পোস্টার সাঁটা হয়, যার বেশির ভাগই অশ্লীল।
বৃহস্পতিবার সরেজমিনে দেখা গেছে, শহরের ঢাকা-সিলেট মহাসড়কের কালভার্ট, শহীদ জিয়া তোরণ, মনামারা সেতু, বঙ্গবন্ধু সরণি সেতু, নতুন গলি, মালগুদাম, স্টেশন সড়ক, বাসস্ট্যান্ড ও ঋষিপট্টি সড়কে অশ্লীল পোস্টারের আধিক্য। এর মধ্যে ইংরেজি ছবির পোস্টারও রয়েছে। প্রতিটি পোস্টারে নারীদের অরুচিকর ও বিকৃতভাবে উপস্থাপন করা হয়েছে।
এসব স্থান দিয়ে বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে উচ্চবিদ্যালয়, কে বি পাইলট উচ্চবিদ্যালয়, এম পি বালিকা উচ্চবিদ্যালয়, জিল্লুর রহমান মহিলা ডিগ্রি কলেজ ও রফিকুল ইসলাম মহিলা কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীরা যাতায়াত করে।
রফিকুল ইসলাম মহিলা কলেজর অধ্যাপক মো. শহীদুল্লাহ বলেন, এমন স্থানে পোস্টার সাঁটা হয়েছে, চোখ পড়বেই। এমন পরিবেশে সন্তানের ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তা বাড়ছে।
উপজেলা প্রশাসন সূত্র জানায়, আজ থেকে আট বছর আগে ভৈরবে অশ্লীল পোস্টারের বিরুদ্ধে সামাজিক আন্দোলন গড়ে উঠেছিল। তখন এলাকার গণ্যমান্য ব্যক্তি ও প্রেক্ষাগৃহের মালিকদের নিয়ে উপজেলা প্রশাসন সভা করে।
সিদ্ধান্ত হয়, পোস্টার সাঁটার আগে তা উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তার (ইউএনও) নজরে আনা হবে। অনুমোদনের পর সাঁটা হবে। উদ্যোগের কয়েক বছর নীতিমালার যথাযথ প্রয়োগ হয়। কিন্তু দুই বছর ধরে তা আর মানা হচ্ছে না।
জানতে চাইলে ভৈরবের ইউএনও সেলিম আহমেদ প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘ভৈরবে আমি নবাগত। এ কারণে বিষয়টি নজরে আসেনি। মালিকদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে প্রতিকারে যাব। না শুনলে আইনগত ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে।’

আবাসিক হোটেল থেকে ৫৬ জন গ্রেপ্তার

গাজীপুর সদর উপজেলার চান্দনা চৌরাস্তা এলাকায় গতকাল শুক্রবার রজনীগন্ধা ও ঈশা খাঁ আবাসিক হোটেলে অভিযান চালিয়ে যৌনকর্মীসহ ৫৬ জনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে পুলিশ। তাঁদের মধ্যে হোটেল দুটির ব্যবস্থাপকও রয়েছেন।
এলাকাবাসী সূত্র জানায়, সদর উপজেলার চান্দনা চৌরাস্তা ও ভোগড়া এলাকায় বেশ কয়েকটি আবাসিক হোটেল গড়ে উঠেছে। এসব হোটেলে মাদক ও দেহ ব্যবসা করা হয় বলে এলাকাবাসী একাধিকবার থানায় লিখিত অভিযোগ করেছেন।
গতকালের অভিযানে নেতৃত্ব দেওয়া অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার সঞ্জিত কুমার রায় প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, ‘আবাসিক হোটেলের নামে কেউ অবৈধ ব্যবসা করলেই আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে। এখন থেকে হোটেলগুলোয় নিয়মিত তদারকি করা হবে।’
